Romans 4:6-8 (KJV)
6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
In the last devotion, we acknowledged that one of the major blessing(s) is that we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. In verses 7 and 8, Paul shares another great blessing we have received in Christ: “Total Forgiveness” not just for past and present sins but according to verse 8, future sins also.
Let’s look at “will not impute sin.” *This is a double negative that strongly expresses a negation stating that those who receive forgiveness by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord as the full and final payment will not ever have their sins held against them. Will not impute = will not take an account of them. So, even future sins have been dealt with.
All of our sins, past, present and future were forgiven through the one offering of Jesus (Heb 10:10,14). You may ask can God forgive future sins? If God didn’t forgive future sins, then none of us can be saved because Jesus died once, nearly 2000 years ago before we were even born.
Since we are forgiven, let’s start living in the blessing! Amen!
Say these affirmations daily:
- Thank you heavenly Father for sending your Son Jesus as the atoning, perfect, and final sacrifice for all my sins, past, present and future.
- According Hebrews 10:17 in the new covenant, that you made with us, our sins and iniquities you will remember them no more.
- It is such a blessing to know that I am totally forgiven and free to enjoy life every day.
